BAILING OUT THE AUTO INDUSTRY

The news conversation the last few days has concerned the financial shortcoming in this country, the world, and the supposed coming failure of the US auto industry. I should begin this discussion by stating outright that I believe in the free market and its ability to recover with or without the interference of the Federal Government (the government).

I do not believe the government should be in the bailout business. The thought of a good faith loan is abhorrent enough, but acceptable. (Chrysler successfully pulled it off several years ago.) Our auto industry refused to read the writing on the outhouse wall for many years. The Asian auto producers have produced high quality fuel efficient cars for more than two generations. The Big Three have continued down that dark tunnel of the blind and produced the vehicles now languishing on out car lots. I love these great beasts, I own a Suburban, but no one can afford to drive them. (The current decrease in gas prices have helped.)

If the government is to continue in this fray they may consider an alternative approach. Why not put together an unemployment package that protects the auto workers for two years. Include basic medical coverage with medications. This package should in no way ever be extended.

The auto industry should put together a sound business plan that will allow them to retool and begin producing an appropriate 21st century automobile. The unemployed workers should have first application for any new positions, but no guarantee of any position. The government should require the auto industry to repay every dime loaned with an appropriate usury.

The United States has the best workers in the world. The last ten years our economy has transitioned to a service economy. Our industry went the way of NAFTA and other such rapes of the American work force. The blame for this pillaging can be spread across several administrations and both political parties. NAFTA should be repealed now and the affect on any other nation should be of little concern to this or the upcoming administration.

The United States should do whatever is necessary to again become the greatest industrial nation on the planet. The American Worker should always be the beneficiary of any legislation or treaty brought before the Congress. The impact of any such legislation on another nation or group of nations must always be a secondary concern. This is classic Protectionism, but in the current climate of the world economy it is what the US and our workers need.

The economic recovery will be much longer than most have voiced. The interference of the Federal Government will probably make matters much worse than they would have been otherwise. The United States must take care of Americans first. If they do the rest of the world's economies will improve given enough time.

ALWAYS AMERICA FIRST

Education Crisis- Just Some Suggestions

The greatest equalizer in this world is education. I realize there are schools that have great difficulty meeting minimum standards much less acceptable ones. I believe a solution is within our grasp and must be found. I have a few suggestions that I think might help the incoming administration conquer this bit of irony in our American Culture.

My grandmother was a school teacher, immediately after finishing high school in Southern Georgia, near the turn of the last century. She drew great criticism for attempting to teach poor children of all races. She was a typical person of that era, but she knew that an education was one of the most important things in any young persons life. I completely agree.

The quality and quantity of teachers available is sorely lacking. Teachers are the most under paid profession, requiring a college degree. I am a registered nurse. I am privileged to make an outstanding income as a result of my profession. I believe that teachers, at all levels, should have a income equal to mine. I realize this must be tempered, but the ones that I know spend a lot of time preparing for class. If we are to have the cream of the crop teaching our children, then we must be willing to pay for planting the seeds.

The number of new teachers entering the teaching profession is lacking. Why would someone go to the great expense of obtaining a college degree and then enter a profession that allows them to apply for Food Stamps. If you want the best and brightest minds in front of the classroom, make it worth their while. If someone is majoring in Math, Science, or English pay for their education. Require them to teach for five years after graduating. (If a student pursues a doctorate it should be paid for. They would still only be required to be in the class room five years.) If they do not graduate they must repay their assistance in five years, every dime with interest. Quickly the shortage in teachers in these vital areas will be filled and then the application process can be more competitive.

While discussing education and schools we must remove the politics from the teaching curriculum. We must teach right and wrong. If a teacher is a womanizer, an addict, a thief, a child molester, or a slut they must not be in front of our children. The teacher in the front of the classroom may be the only positive influence in a child's life. They must be a HERO. Parents and each Board of Education must demand exemplary conduct and behavior from our teachers. If they fail to be a positive example they must be removed immediately.

An outstanding education is the RIGHT of every American. An outstanding education is only available from outstanding teachers. We must do what ever is necessary to put outstanding teachers in front of all our students.

Pray for President-elect Obama and my children.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

SUPPORTING OBAMA

I have decided to throw my voice into the fray concerning our President-Elect.

I will begin by stating openly that I am a staunch Conservative, not necessarily a Republican. I did not vote for Senator Obama, but I support him in this huge endeavor.

I had a very curious conversation with some of the members of the staff where I work. They are black and very liberal. They were attempting to rub the thrashing the Republicans took in my face. When asked what I thought about the election, I responded in a way that left them absolutely speechless.
My reply was: If on January 20, 2009 the inauguration is over and the new President is standing next to the current President and both were being fired upon. I would gladly take a bullet for President Obama because he would be MY PRESIDENT. I do not in anyway expect to have to live up to this statement, but I truly meant it.

This new President must have our support if he is to truly accomplish anything productive. I have an acquaintance that is friends with Mr. Obama. He says that Mr. Obama is an honorable man. I consider the man that stated such to have great honor, so I will take him at his word.

Let all Americans support this new President and make our judgement based on his performance not on supposition.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, Pray for our New President, and Pray for My Children.
